Guan Yin’s practice came to China as early as the first century AD from India, and from there spread to devotees in Japan and Korea. In Buddhism, labels are just labels, and the name of the Compassionate Bodhisattva is another imputed label that just helps us relate to the Enlightened concept in our daily lives. ![]() Labels are just labels, but they are also symbols Or the compassionate mantra Om Mani Padme Hum Statue of Guan Yin the Goddess of Mercy. I would love to get to know you - you served as a reminder on my journey. There are literally thousands of stories from people who say they were rescued - from impending disaster - by faith and chanting of Guan Yin Pusa’s name praise: Namo Guan-Shi-Yin Pusa But in a way, i seem to have a natural gift for meditation and intuition so much so when i finally saw a counselor at school i had alrdy learned therapeutic skills simply through meditation practices and youtube (context: i grew up very socially isolated from the world, so before than, i didnt know much about anything even at the age of 20 but i had profoundly understood so many life lessons simply from deep meditative states) In a way, my mom and monks have always told me i was a Monk in the past life (im not sure if thats true per se, i am still experimenting with some spiritual truths). In a way i forget this but i sometimes remember, what if my mom was embodying the essence of avalokiteshvara that was channeled through my mom to get to me. I remember my mom sharing a traditional idea in vietnam, that she sees her parents as gods or earth gods and how we should honour them. In a way my mother love has always seem to embody avalokiteshvara. At times i would think and embody their virtues whenever i needed love. So it reminded me that my refuge was buddhism & philosophy - i remember sticking to one mantra i grew up with that was simple common tibetan mantra that was associated with avalokiteshvara “om mani padme hum” was taught to me very young so i used it throughout whenever i felt extremely anxious and depressed in addition to meditation and deep contemplation. (This was the only consistent thing in my life of chaos). I grew up troubled an i think the symbolism and devotion to buddhism and the images of Guan yin was posted in my home always which reminded me. I grew up in Temples with my mother and monks had always invited my mother to allow me to become a student. My mother also had the same experience, when pregnant with me. (I apologize if this isnt actually related to buddhism per se) Such a coincidence i came upon this… lately i been felt close to my spiritual energy returning to me. “Therefore, living beings should all receive and uphold the name of Guanshiyin Bodhisattva.”īut if you prefer a Mantra over chanting her Name, you can use the Great Compassion Mantra (Da Bei Zhou), Om Mani Padme Hum or recite the Heart Sutra.
